Kailua-Kona is a city on the west coast of the Big Island that is the main point for tourists to visit. Most visitors that go to the Big Island stay at the west side because of the climate. Here it doesn’t rain very much and there’s less wind than on the east side.

There are lots of beaches to choose from with powdery white sand and the ocean is calmer in contrast to the rest of the island. The city and its surrounding area offers a lot of beauty and all you can wish for to rejuvenate yourself.

Kona is a relaxed and calm city, located at the foot of Hualalai volcano. This city has a lot to offer for its visitors; a good amount of hotels and vacation rentals, bars and restaurants and a lot of interesting historical sites, making it the perfect destination for your holiday.

Kona is a historical town. A lot of the Hawaiian kings made Kona their home, probably because of the great location and the climate. The missionaries made later Kona into a seaport with a lot of houses and churches being built. Kailua Pier is found in the middle of the city and is the place to be at sunset. Here you can experience amazing sunsets and also have a good view of the area.

Just at the side of the pier you find Kamakahonu Beach. Here you can spend your day, relaxing in the sun on the white sand and swimming in the calm water. The beach is not too busy, but you can still find some beach activities. The water is great for snorkelling and there are canoe rentals.

Along the seaside you find the main street Ali’i Drive. This is probably where you’ll be spending most of your time in Kona, since most activities are located here. This is where most hotels, restaurants and shops can be found and also a good amount of the cultural and historical sites.

A lot of people make Kona into their main location at their Big Island stay; it’s only a short ride from the airport and it’s easy to find daily trips and activities from here. Many boat cruising companies starts off from here and you can do hiking or horse-back riding on the surrounding area

Have fun exploring this city, with its great mixture of modern and ancient. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed yet active Hawaii vacation.
