Make sure you join a plan from a company who has office or center in the country which is to be visited. These doctors and hospitals may be reluctant to accept cards of some other country or in some cases may not even have easy contact with such companies. The hospitals or the clinics are in a better situation to get in touch with the native office for clarification regarding the visitor insurance plans; the same thing would be difficult and in some cases, even impossible, if the insurance would have been purchased in a foreign land.
Once you join a visitors insurance, you are given an identification card which you have to present whenever you need to seek medical assistance from a hospital or doctor. The insurance company will consult, in written, with the clinic or hospital and check which expenses you can claim under the plan.
The visitors insurance company will then evaluate any claim that may be registered and then make the suitable payment to the clinic or the hospital under as per the policy. Some companies even allow for the possibility of injuries arising out of accidents, war or even terrorism in their policies. Either the cost that may be incurred during the treatment is reimbursed to the client or the bills may be paid directly depending on the policies of the company.
